It’s been established by two surveys, that 90% of respondents reject Merton Council’s proposals for fortnightly waste collections, & the introduction of 68,000 wheelie bins.

Merton Council's Proposal

Merton Council propose to collect dustbin waste and recycling fortnightly, and replace our dustbins with wheelies. They're intending to introduce a second wheelie per household for paper/card but leave us with open topped boxes for plastics etc!

Merton Residents' Proposal

Merton Residents propose that weekly dustbin waste collections be maintained, and that two 80 litre, fox-proof, lidded, recycling bins be supplied, to contain a fortnight's worth of separated recycling: both brown, to match the food waste bin.

Campaign Objectives

1. The NO WHEELIES PLEASE MERTON petition, offers Merton a RESIDENTS’ REFERENDUM, which will allow them to express their preference for the frequency of dustbin waste collections, and the introduction of new receptacles.

2. We’ll be spreading the word across Merton using posters, flyers, press and media.

3. We aim to represent the majority of Merton residents in face to face negotiations with the Council.

NO WHEELIES PLEASE – MERTON is a non-party-political RESIDENTS’ REFERENDUM. Not surprisingly, we’re operating this campaign on a shoestring – if you’d like to make a donation towards our printing, postage and phone calls, please let us know! THANK YOU.
